Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, speaking from East Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that Russia supports the principles of the Dayton Peace Agreement (DPA).
Lavrov’s intention to express support to the territorial organization of the state with two entities was as a surprising highlight during his official visit to BiH. In the last days, Bosniak officials in BiH have been hyping the narrative regarding DPA and Constitutional amendments, the abolition of Republika Srpska and the establishment of a civil state to replace the “state with three constitutional nations” as defined in DPA. The fact that Lavrov’s first stop was East Sarajevo, Republika Srpska, combined with tomorrow’s scheduled meetings with state authorities in Sarajevo are confirmation of his statements.
Lavrov calls on everyone to respect the DPA, adding that any attempt to repeal it can pose the most serious risks and consequences.
“The General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, the Dayton Peace Agreement, was signed 25 years ago. We are of the same opinion today; we have a common position that the DPA is the foundation of BiH’s functioning; its fundamental principles, equality of the three constituent peoples and two entities should be respected,” Lavrov said in East Sarajevo.
At a press conference after his meeting with Srpska officials and the Serb member and BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik, he pointed out that they had very constructive talks amid a friendly atmosphere.
Lavrov emphasized that Republika Srpska is a good partner of Russia; they retain close and confidential ties highly valued, and they stand for cooperation in the interests of the peoples of Russia and BiH, as well as for stability in the country.
He pointed out that Republika Srpska’s decision on military neutrality was taken into account, with Russia assessing the decision as a correct one.
Chairman and Serb member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik said that Republika Srpska and Russia share a solid economic cooperation realized through a series of projects without a single outstanding issue.
“I am particularly honoured to host Lavrov in the friendly region of Republika Srpska. We discussed amicable relations, which are good and without a single outstanding issue,” Dodik said at a press conference after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Dodik mentioned that Lavrov’s visit on the day of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement was rather symbolic, since his trip had been scheduled for an earlier date.
Dodik thanked the Russian Federation for formulating and adopting the Dayton Accords, and above all for supporting and implementing it.
“The afore-mentioned support is very important nowadays, as it led us to understand that there are those in the world who are ready to abide by the Dayton Peace Agreement, instead of dealing with different kinds of bravura, which was one of the topics we discussed at today’s meeting,” he said.
Dodik pointed out that the Dayton Peace Agreement was not made to be amended without the consent of two entities and three peoples.
“We have been opposing international interventionism for years. We are now demanding the closure of the Office of the High Representative, not the extension of the term of office and agony they represent here,” said the BiH Presidency chairman.
He pointed out that the Bonn powers were a fraud and a hoax, stressing that the Peace Implementation Council was formed beyond the Dayton Accords, which could not give such powers to any High Representative.
“The PIC said it welcomed the intent, but did not give authorizations; therefore, the laws passed by the High Representative must be repealed,” Dodik concluded. /ibna
