Four former political dissidents have tied themselves with chains in front of the Albanian parliament’s headquarters today.
They say that they tied themselves with chains “as a sign of protest against the lack of attention by the government and the failure to pay the installments for the compensation that they’re entitled to”.
This act means that these people continue to live as if they were in prison even 23 years after they won freedom with the return of democracy in the country.
Skender Tufa said that this action shows that these former political dissidents continue to be like this even in democracy.
“We’re waiting to receive compensation. We’re still political prisoners”, said the former political dissident, Skender Tufa.
As it can be seen on the photo, four former political dissidents have tied themselves in chains in the monument placed near the parliament headquarters. This monument was placed there to honor their past.
Today’s protest of the former political dissidents comes a few weeks after the hunger strike that they had in front of the building of the parliament of Albania.
The former political dissidents have also expressed their discontent about the new director of the Institute of Political Dissidents, Bedri Blloshmi, who was recently involved in a scandal. Blloshmi has been denounced by his relatives as a person who has abused with schemes relating to previous political imprisonments, for purposes of gain. /ibna/
