Yesterday, the Greek Prime Minister met with the Archbishop of America, Mr. Elpidoforos. Addressing the archbishop he said he was “excited to be visiting you in my new capacity as prime minister … 2019 is an important year for both of us, you have undertaken the crucial mission of leading the archdiocese of America which has such deep roots in Greek Diaspora. At the same time in 2019 our people entrusted us with leading the country out of the crisis”.
The PM emphasized the inextricable links that link the Diaspora with the motherland and noted in this context that the mission of the Church is crucial. We will support your work, the prime minister said, referring to his decision to institutionalize the votes of expatriates to finally be able to vote from their place of residence. Concluding, he said “I have high expectations of the work you can do here in America; Hellenism in Greece in America and everywhere in the world will succeed”.
Mr Elpidoforos, for his part, said that “I welcome you to our historic seat with feelings of love and appreciation … After the end of the ten-year crisis, you have been called as the leading Greek citizen to serve the country as Prime Minister of everyone, as you said yesterday. Whenever we were united we did wonders and wrote golden pages in history … I hope the new government becomes worthy of the hopes of the Greek people and achieves progress, prosperity and growth”./ibna
