Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Greece is in support of the European prospects of the Western Balkans

“Greece is in support of the European prospects of the Western Balkan countries, as long as these countries meet the accession requirements”, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama during the 4th Euro-Arab Summit.

According to the joint press release which followed after the meeting that was held amidst a “positive climate”, the Greek Prime Minister “welcomed the Albanian side’s commitment to move forward with affairs related to property and self-determination / enumeration issues that are of the utmost importance for the Greek Minority in Albania. The Greek Prime Minister noted that the bilateral agreement on driving licenses would soon be ratified by the Greek Parliament. Kyriakos Mitsotakis accepted the invitation of the Albanian Prime Minister to visit Albania in the near future.

All bilateral issues were raised during the meeting, with the Albanian Prime Minister stressing that, despite the neighboring country’s disappointment following the European Council’s decision not to commence the accession negotiations with the EU, Albania would continue in the direction of implementing reforms with the same determination. And this is because it is in Albania’s own interest to improve its relations with Greece by addressing all bilateral issues and enhancing two-way co-operation. /ibna
