Kyriacos Mitsotakis met with the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin. The ND president spoke of an extremely interesting and very warm meeting, which confirmed the excellent climate that exists in relations between the two states. Mr. Mitsotakis stated that Israel is a strategic partner of our country and expressed his joy that the political rapprochement between Greece and Israel, is a policy adopted by all Greek governments over the years.

“We particularly discussed the field of economic cooperation between Greece and Israel. An economic cooperation which can lead to significant investments by Israel in Greece, at a time when our country needs to attract foreign investment,” said the leader of the main opposition, noting that tourism is a sector in which transnational cooperation can make very significant progress. He noted in this regard, that already 400,000 Israeli tourists visit our country every year, and stressed that there is very considerable scope for cooperation in the high technology sector, the agri-foods and water management too.

“In the remainder of my visit, I will have the opportunity to visit many start-up companies, to be able to see for myself the way in which Israel supports entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurship and innovation must be at the center of the Greek economy’s recovery effort, “continued Mr. Mitsotakis before attacking the government. “Unfortunately, what we’ve seen from the government in this area is not very encouraging. But surely Israel can teach us a lot about how new enterprises are supported, how they grow, how they raise capital and ultimately how they create jobs, which should be the main challenge for the Greek economy today” Mitsotakis added.

According to information, Messrs. Mitsotakis and Rivlin agreed that populism destroys any attempt to correct problems of the country. In particular, referring to terrorism issues, Mr. Rivlin stressed the threat of Islamic fundamentalism, bringing as an example the Islamic State (ISIS) and Iran, while making reference to the stance of Mr. Mitsotakis himself, and his whole family in – which maintains traditional ties of friendship with Israel – the strengthening of bilateral relations.
