The end of the mandate of EULEX mission, transition and transfer of powers to domestic institutions has been the topic of discussions in the meeting held today in Pristina between deputy prime minister Hajredin Kuci, the head of EU office in Kosovo, Samuel Zgobar and the chief of the EULEX office, Bern Borchardt.
According to a press statement released by the Ministry of Justice, Kuci has stressed the need to define issues that relate to the mandate of EULEX, in order to prepare the necessary legislative changes needed in order to carry out the transition, namely the transfer of powers from EULEX mission to domestic institutions.
“Parties agreed that it’s necessary to reach an agreement between Pristina and Brussels in relation to EULEX mandate in order to start as soon as possible the necessary preparations for the transition period”, states the press release.
The meeting also discussed procedural aspects of this process, namely the signature of an agreement to exchange letters between Pristina and Brussels, the ratification by the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo of the agreement in question and the amendment of the respective laws which relate to the EULEX mandate. /ibna/
