In Kosovo, business representatives say that in spite of the numerous achievements, the economy of the country continues to face difficulties. They say that the current economy is weak and stress that in spite of the market opening with the United States and the European Union, Kosovo cannot benefit without changing its economic approach.

Head of the American Chamber of Commerce, Arian Zeka, says that the current government has taken a number of reforms to help the economy of the country, but according to him, they are not enough.

“We have called for a comprehensive fiscal reform as the amendment of three tax laws cannot be considered comprehensive. We have demanded for the list of first raw materials which are imported to the countries which are currently subject to customs fees. This would put domestic producers in an equal position to the countries of the region and beyond”, Zeka declared.

Meanwhile, the head of Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Safet Gerxhaliu says that Kosovo is currently facing numerous economic problems, which generate social, political and integrating problems.

“This is why economic development must be economic development, because this is the only way to open new jobs and increase domestic production. This is important, because Kosovo today has high poverty, which is only increasing. Kosovo must increase the quality of domestic production and advance trade partnership first of all with the countries of the region”, he said. /ibna/
