Kosovo’s demands in the Berlin Summit

The positions taken by Kosovar leaders in the Berlin Summit with regards to the talks with Serbia were different from each other.

Kosovo’s president, Hashim Thaci was pessimistic and launched criticism against European Union, while PM Ramush Haradinaj has praised the role of Germany and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

President Thaci told reporters after the meeting that “the European Union is weak and is unable to move things forward in the Balkans and this is why the involvement of the US is needed”.

Kosovo’s president demanded from Germany and France to put more pressure on Serbia in order to recognize Kosovo. He also demanded the liberalization of the visa regime and added that Serbian leadership should apologize for the crimes committed in Kosovo.

For Kosovo’s PM, Ramush Haradinaj, France and Germany should voice their support about Kosovo’s visa liberalization and they should make it clear that no border changes can be discussed in the talks between Kosovo and Serbia.

“During the meeting with the US ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, I also stressed that our government is against the idea of land swaps, considering this as a dangerous option which would not only cause instability for the country, but for the region too”, Haradinaj said.

Kosovo’s PM also praised the role of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel who was against the idea of territorial swaps.

On the other hand, Serbia’s president, Alexandar Vucic declared after a meeting held with EU chief diplomat, Mogherini that there needs to be a solution accepted by all sides.

“If nobody wants compromise and they think that the solution will come by putting more pressure on Serbia, then there’s no point in saying anything else”, Vucic said. /ibna/
