International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has officially accepted Kosovo as its member According to its official announcement, Kosovo’s Basketball Association (FBK) has become its 215th member of BIBA and the 52nd member of FIBA Europe.

The decision was taken in the meeting of FIBA’s executive committee as a result of Kosovo’s admission in the International Olympic Committee in December 2014. Media in Kosovo report that this admission automatically follows the admission in FIBA Europe.

The news has also been confirmed by the head of FBK, Erolld Belegu.

“Today, I have the pleasure to confirm that beyond the solemn act of admission, as of now, we have secured from FIBA special programs for our coaches and referees and we expect FIBA’s assistance to expand in other vital segments for our functioning as the youngest member of this organization, securing concrete support for the development of new categories”, Belegu declared.

This news has also rejoiced the institutions of Kosovo.

Kosovo’s admission by FIBA has irritated the Serb basketball federation. The president of Serbia’s Basketball Federation, Dejan Tomasevic said that FIBA will not accept Kosovo as a full member. According to him, this is entirely unjust. /ibna/
