The head of the EU office to Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, declared today that it’s important for Kosovo and Serbia to build up a high level dialogue.
“We must remind ourselves that a while ago, Kosovo was at war and now, the laws of Kosovo are being implemented. We have mayors of northern communes who work based on the laws of Kosovo. There are no longer true barricades in the north. The barrier on the bridge is not a real barrier. We have integrated parallel structures or in the process of integrating within the police of Kosovo”, Zbogar said.
Zbogar also mentioned cooperation between the mayors of Southern Mitrovica and Northern Mitrovica.
“Goran Rakic and Agim Bahtiri joined together in order not to allow the escalation of the situation in the north weeks ago. This means that dialogue is giving its effects there”, he added.
Zbogar said that Kosovo must not see dialogue as something which is helping only Serbia.
“Integration in the EU is the best way to encourage both sides for a better dialogue. Kosovo is seeing it as an opportunity for Serbia. I believe that it must interpret it in its own favor, because Kosovo needs to normalize relations with Serbia, in order to move forward in the EU path”, Zbogar said. /ibna/
