Kosovo: New government without elections and dissolution of Parliament

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, after meeting with leaders of the political parties in Parliament on Wednesday, said he had received the consent of the majority to form a new government.

Depicting the consent of the political parties into the seats of the Parliament, Thaci stated that 91 out of 120 deputies are in favor of the formation of a new government without holding early elections. All parties except Vetevendosje stressed to Thaci during Wednesday’s meeting that they are in favor of forming a new government without dissolving parliament and holding new elections.

“The meeting with the leaders of the political parties represented in the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo has just ended and 91 of the 120 deputies are in favor of forming a new government based on the results of October 6, 2019. I will respect their willingness, their Constitution and current Kosovo laws”, Thaci wrote on social media after the meeting.

Thaci noted that the new government would be formed in the coming days and decided not to dissolve the parliament. “In the coming days, Kosovo will have a new government and there will be no dissolution of the parliament or new elections. Kosovo has the capacity and maturity to form a new government and guarantee the democratic functioning of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, despite the pandemic”, Thaci concluded./ibna
