Diplomacy of Kosovo is negotiating in order for this country to become a member of the European Council. For this, the Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj has started his visit in Strasbourg, France, to take forward the agenda of the accession of Kosovo in the European Council.
Hoxhaj has met today (25.02) with the head of this institution, General Secretary of the European Council, Thorbjorn Jagland (photo) in order to talk about the developments in Kosovo.
The talks were focused on the progress in the domain of democracy, rule of law and human rights and also the progress achieved in the talks with Serbia. Hoxhaj and Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland have also talked about the strengthening of the international subjectivity of Kosovo and its accession in regional and international organizations.
The head of the Kosovar diplomacy informed secretary Jagland on the aspirations of Kosovo to become a member of the Council of Europe, by saying that Kosovo is a country that incarnates the principles of the Council of Europe, such as democracy, human rights and rule of law.
“The majority of member countries of the Council of Europe have recognized the independence of Kosovo. The April 19 agreement with Serbia is an extra argument as to why Kosovo must apply and become a member of the Council of Europe. This agreement clearly stresses that none of the sides must block the path of the other country toward European integration. Part of this journey is accession in the Council of Europe, which for us is an intermediary step toward the full accession in the European Union”, said Hoxhaj. /ibna/
