The annual report of the US State Department has praised the Constitution of Kosovo as far as religious freedoms are concerned.

Although in the legal aspect, Kosovo is performing really well, the State Department annual report stresses numerous religious incidents. But, the report says that due to the situation in the country, it is difficult to make out problems that have an ethnic nature from those that have a religious nature.

This is particularly the case with the Serb community as a result of the Serb Orthodox Church which is also seen in an ethnic point of view and not necessary in a religious point of view.

Government in Kosovo has taken action to prevent violent extremism in Kosovo, collaborating with the Muslim community, the report says, but incidents especially from particular Muslim groups have also continued within the Kosovo Islamic Community.

Meanwhile, up to August, Kosovo police have registered 34 incidents relating to thefts and damages on the properties of the Serb Orthodox Church.

The US State Department Report also stresses the failure of authorities in Kosovo to pass the bill which enables the registration of religious groups. /balkaneu.com/
