Kosovo: Foundation for Thaci’s legal protection established

The “Support for the Legal Protection of Hashim Thaci” Foundation has been established. According to a press release issued by the foundation, set up under applicable law, the institute aims to support the legal protection of former President Thaci, who faces war crimes charges before The Hague special chambers. The Foundation will support the provision of genuine protection, technical and professional assistance to the defense team during his trial, as well as cooperation with all stakeholders in order to advance the truth and history of the war for the freedom of President Thaci and Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). The foundation was founded on the initiative of Idriz Thaci, brother of President Thaci. It will consist of a board of directors and will supervise the operation of the institution, as well as the administrative staff that will perform the tasks related to the goals and activities of the institution.

Thaci, the political spokesman for the Kosovo Liberation Army, has been charged with war crimes along with Kadri Veseli, a former leader of the Kosovo Democratic Party, and two other former KLA commanders, namely Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

Following the confirmation of the indictment on November 5th, Thaci and others remain incarcerated at the Kosovo Special Chambers (KSC) in The Hague pending trial. /ibna
