The threat of violent Islamic extremism is growing in Kosovo and is partially funded by foreign organizations that preach extremist ideologies, the annual report of the US Department of State on terrorism states.
The 2016 report says that around 315 terrorist fighters from Kosovo have traveled to Syria and Iraq to fight extremist groups of the Islamic State and al-Nusrah Front, 58 of which have been killed.
“Government of Kosovo is implementing an inclusive strategy and an action plan against violent extremism. Kosovo police units engaged in the fight against terrorism have boosted their investigating capacities and improved the cyber unit against terrorism”, the report says.
The report of the US State Department also states that Kosovo’s government has continued its cooperation with the US in the fight against terrorism, while the US have assisted law enforcement agencies and judicial institutions in active cases against terrorism. /balkaneu.com/
