Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri has announced that Austria has applied to ITU about Kosovo’s new country code, in accordance to the Brussels agreement on telecommunication.

“We have received the official confirmation for Austria’s application by the European Union and Austrian Embassy to Kosovo”, said the minister, who thanked the Austrian state for the important engagement in order for Kosovo to have its international country telephone code.

Minister Tahiri said that Kosovo’s country code will be 383 and that this new code will enable Kosovo international sovereignty in the domain of telecommunication.

“Since the end of the war, in 1999, Kosovo has made endless efforts to have its own country code and this is being achieved thanks to the Brussels Dialogue and the engagement of the European Union, USA and Austria”, minister Tahiri says.

According to the implementation plan, ITU will allocate Kosovo’s country code in the month of March 2016.

The minister says that the economic benefits are great as operators will not be forced to pay high financial costs, which are directly attributed to the lack of country code and which are reflected in offering better service for consumers.

Overall costs due to the lack of the country code amount to 200 million euros. /ibna/
