The next meeting between government officials of Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, scheduled for February 9, will discuss a deal about the justice system that will be installed in the north of the country.
Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said that along with him in this meeting will be PM Isa Mustafa and in front of them will be the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic and head of the Serb diplomacy, Ivica Dacic. The four officials will attempt to strike a deal for the judicial system in the northern part of Kosovo in the office of the EU head of diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.
“I can say that the February 9 meeting will mark a new start, a new chapter, especially for the finalization of an agreement on the justice system”, said Thaci during a press conference.
According to him, the agreement on the judicial system is vital, in order for law and order in the north of Kosovo to function.
Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci said that “the issue of Trepce cannot be discussed with anybody, because Trepce is Kosovo’s asset”.
The same opinion is also shared by chief negotiator of Kosovo, Edita Tahiri. She says that no talks can be held with Serbia on assets that are part of the sovereignty of Kosovo.
“All assets of Kosovo, including assets found underground, are part of the sovereignty of Kosovo and they cannot be subject of discussions in Brussels”, said the chief negotiator of Kosovo for the talks with Serbia, Edita Tahiri.
But, the government of Serbia says that it will insist for the issue of the mine of Trepce, Brezovica, Gazivoda Lake and other assets to be discussed in the Brussels’ talks.
“We will see how this goes. We didn’t want to raise the issue of assets in Brussels, but PM Isa Mustafa and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci wanted to solve the issue of Trepce and Brezovica before going to Brussels”, declared Serb PM, Aleksandar Vucic.
The general secretary of the Serb Foreign Ministry, Velko Odanovic, declared that Serb assets in Kosovo will be discussed in the Brussels’ talks.
“I believe that the topic of discussions must not only include Trepca, but assets of Serbia in Kosovo. Trepce is not the only public enterprise in Kosovo, There’s also Brezovica, the Telecom, the Post Office and other companies”, said Odanovic.
He said that Serbia today is paying international debts on assets which have been outside of its administration.
Experts of political issues told IBNA that the political class in Kosovo is always in a defensive position.
Analyst Vilhard Shala says that it’s absurd to discuss the assets or natural resources of Kosovo in Brussels.
“It’s absurd. These topics must not be discussed in Brussels, otherwise, Kosovo must seek compensation for the damages caused by Miloshevic’s regime during the last war. Serbia must pay war damages, refund money from the pension fund and apologize for the crimes committed in this country”, says he. /ibna/
