The shutting down of businesses in Kosovo has continued throughout 2016. The number of closed within a year is considered to be worrying for the economy of the country.

The closure of businesses is leading to the closure of many jobs, which is having an impact on the level of unemployment in Kosovo, which is higher than 30%.

The director of the Agency for the Registration of Businesses, Gazmend Mejzini says that from the start of this year until now, the number of closed businesses in Kosovo was 1 thousand.

He says that closed businesses during these five months are mainly small and medium enterprises or family businesses.

“The numbers of closures during this year are higher than other years”, Mejzini says.

Economy experts told IBNA that the closure of businesses comes as a result an unfavorable economic environment and dishonest competition.

Analyst of economic affairs, Shkelzen Dakaj told IBNA that the large number of businesses which are shut down every year must alarm the authorities of the country.

“Kosovo is lacking a good business environment. We don’t even have an honest competition. Institutions of the country have failed in supporting small sized businesses”, Dakaj says.

According to him, the high level of corruption in the institutions of the country is deterring people from doing business in Kosovo.

Analyst Berat Aqifi told IBNA that Kosovo’s government must introduce tax policies which make private enterprises more competitive.

“The country must help small and mediums sized businesses more, especially those which are led by young people and women. But what counts more are the added efforts and concrete results in the improvement of the rule of law, fight against corruption and the improvement of efficiency in the judiciary system. /balkaneu.com/
