In a report published today, Kosovo Civil Society Consortium for Sustainable Development (KOSID), declared that “New Kosovo” thermal power plant, which is expected to be built in the years to come, will damage the budget of the citizens of Kosovo.

During the presentation of this study, Visar Azemi of KOSID said that the project in question is an unnecessary burden for Kosovo.

“This thermal power plant will damage the household budgets of the Kosovo citizens, because this project will increase the price of electricity in a significant way”, Azemi said.

KOSID’s report has been drafted in cooperation with the Institute for Economic and Financial Analysis of Energy from the United States.

Tom Sanzillo, head of finance of this Institute, also talked about the increase of prices that “New Kosovo” will cause.

“This thermal plant will quadruple electricity prices. It will cost around 1 billion euros, but study reports show that the costs of this thermal power plant are around 1,6 billion euros”, Sanzillo said.

Kosid has also reacted before about electricity prices going up by 30% as a result of the production in this thermal power plant.

“New Kosovo” thermal power plant is expected to be built by the US company Contour Global, which in November last year was announced the best bidder, although it was the only bidder of this project. /ibna/
