US Secretary John Kerry will be in Athens on Friday, immediately after his visit to Nicosia. His meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias is expected to take place around 12.30, after his meeting with Alexis Tsipras.
At the heart of the discussions is expected to be the Cyprus issue, the Greek-Turkish relations which are of particular importance due to the Russian-Turkish tension after the shooting down of the russian fighter aircraft, the issue of security after the terrorist attacks in Paris, that is all the issues recently added in Kerry’s agenda after the postponement of the planned visit in Athens in early November, because of the Procedure of Vienna that opened suddenly in an attempt to find a political solution to the Syrian issue.
One of the main topics of discussion will also be, of course, the energy issues, as discussions on the matter have already began since the first meeting of Kotzias with Kerry last April, during his visit to Washington and then in Athens with Special Envoy of the State Department for Energy Amos Hochstein, who had supported the TAP and IGB pipelines, while he had called Greece a strategic partner in energy in the region.
