Tomislav Karamarko, former leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party and former First Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Tihomir Oreskovic, said on Thursday he was entertaining the idea of establishing a think tank that would devise a plan for the development of Croatia over the next 25 years.
“I have started developing an idea to establish an institute for public policy (think tank) in Croatia that would bring together the best minds from the political spectrum so that we would address the most important challenges constructively. We achieved great success in our first 25 years and now we have to devise a development plan for the next 25 years,” Karamarko wrote in a Facebook post.
Karamarko said that although he was absent from politics he had not stopped thinking about problems faced by Croatia and its future. He said that success must be built on “a strong and active democracy, a modern and innovative economy, and a clear and firm foreign policy.”
Karamarko said that during his recent visit to the United States he was given “an excellent opportunity to talk with US politicians about models of such an enterprise,” adding that he was confident that this initiative could help Croatia./IBNA
