Juncker: Demarcation is key for the visas

The President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker is leading a high level delegation of the European Union which is visiting Pristina today.

Part of this delegation is also the Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn and the Head of the EU Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini.

In a joint press conference with the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, Juncker demanded the ratification of the border deal with Montenegro, saying that this is the key requirement for the liberalization of the visa regime.

But, Juncker has also urged authorities in Kosovo to fight crime and corruption.

“It is essential that your Parliament votes the demarcation agreement with Montenegro as soon as possible. This is a key, unavoidable step toward the liberalization of visas. All the efforts being made in the fight against crime and corruption must be intensified. The fact that Kosovo citizens are the only ones in the region who cannot travel without visas, does not please me. They are the same as citizens of other countries and they should have the same rights”, Juncker said.

Juncker also stressed that the strategy recently published by the EU on Western Balkans includes Kosovo too.

“We’re happy to end our tour here in Pristina. The strategy that we have recently published includes all of the Western Balkans, which means Kosovo too. This strategy stresses the importance of reforms in Kosovo and the region”, Juncker said. /balkaneu.com/
