The Olympic flame began its journey in distant Brazil and specifically in Rio de Janeiro, the city hosting the 31st Olympics, 120 years since their revival, while sending a strong message of peace, a call for universal brotherhood.
The flame for the Olympic Games ‘Rio 2016’ was lit yesterday in Olympia, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
The holy Light of Olympism “was born” in the hands of the High Priestess Katerina Lehou that conveying the flame to the first torchbearer, World Champion gymnastics Lefteris Petrounias.
Next Torchbearer the former volleyball player, Ziovani Gavio, representing Brazil.
The dancing part of the ceremony organized by the Greek Olympic Committee, had been inspired by the choreographer Artemis Ignatius, to the music of Giannis Pseimadas and was executed by 29 priestesses, while there were 13 dancers and four maidens.
The flame will travel for seven days in Greece and will arrive on April 27 at the Panathenaic Stadium where in a special ceremony will be handed over to a delegation of the host country. From Greece the universal message of peace, brotherhood, solidarity, emitted to the whole world.
