Journalists, media owners and members of civil society held a protest today in Pristina against the lack of safety at work.
Milot Hasimja is the journalist who didn’t participate in the protest. Yesterday, he was stabbed four times at his work place and at the present, he’s in hospital under medical treatment.
This is not the only case that has encouraged journalists to protest about their minimum safety conditions at work.
Head of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, Zekirja Shabani says that in the past six months, there have been tens of similar cases, where journalists have been subject to pressure at work.
“Journalists are insulted, attacked and their aggressors even take the courage to attack them at work now. This was shown yesterday when our colleague, Milot Hasimja was stabbed in the place where he works”, said Shabani.
According to him, Hasimja’s case shows how much of an unsafe environment journalists must work in.
“No threats and no other form of pressure will stop us in our mission to inform”, Shabani added.
Everywhere in the world, journalists face systematic and brutal attacks.
Some of them enter war zones, but the majority of them become targets of criminal groups and individuals who don’t want news to come out. /ibna/
