Serbia is the only country in the region that has shown a sincere attitude towards the reconciliation process, EU Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimović said in Brussels yesterday.
“We’ve had some problems in the past. The full co-operation with The Hague tribunal on the part of Serbia, which was not the case with others. Not to mention that our country’s top officials have been tried before The Hague Tribunal”, Joksimovic said at a press conference after the agreement to open a new Chapter in Serbia-EU accession talks.
This process was not easy for Serbia, the Serbian minister said, arguing that the international community has not always been fair, answering a journalist’s question about Serbia’s stance on denying war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
So, as you know, we do not and probably never will agree with the interpretation of some historical facts, Joksimovic noted.
Joksimovic also added that many EU Member States today have differing views on some of the historical events that have been highlighted in their bilateral relations in the past.
“If we only talk about the past, we will have no chance of securing a better future for our citizens. I think that our President, Aleksandar Vucic, has repeatedly shown throughout the Serbian government a fair and sincere attitude towards regional reconciliation, which has not always been popular with Serbian citizens. We would like to see such dedication in this process by others”, Joksimovic concluded./ibna
