The European Union must make the integration of the Balkan country a priority, given that they are the frontline of the refugee crisis in Europe, said the Italian PM, Matteo Renzi.
Mr. Renzi launched this appeal following EU officials’ declarations at the end of last month, according to which, the EU is concerned that smugglers of human beings can open a new route to Italy from Albania, if land borders of the Balkan countries are closed.
“The European Union has enlarged in the east, but it would be tragic and a historical mistake if the Balkan countries remain out”, Mr. Renzi said.
“The accession of Albania, Montenegro and Serbia in the EU must be a priority”, Renzi said. /ibna/
