The international community has reacted against the decision of the president of FYROM, George Ivanov for granting amnesty for corrupt politicians who have committed criminal offenses.
“President Ivanov’s actions are not in line with the rule of law. Following these events, there are now doubts as to whether there can be fair and democratic elections. Political leaders must know that their actions are posing a real threat for the European Atlantic future of the country. Democracy means compromise. We call on all political parties to return to the table of negotiations and work for the reforms”, wrote EU commissioner Hahn on his Twitter profile.
Today, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn met in Brussels today with the intermediary of the Przino Agreement, MEPs Richard Howitt, Ivo Vajgl and Eduard Kukan to discuss the political situation in FYROM.
Meanwhile, US ambassador to Skopje reacted by saying that justice must act and corrupt officials must not be protected.
“Corrupt politicians and their collaborators were pardoned without a trial. Let the Special prosecution and courts do their job”, wrote US ambassador to Skopje, Jess Baily. Other diplomatic centers in Skopje have also reacted on the political crisis and the growth of tension in the country. /balkaneu.com/
