The international community has intensified its criticism due to the political crisis in FYROM and the failure to find political compromise which would solve the crisis.

Head of German diplomacy, Frank Walter-Steinmeier, said in a message on Twitter that FYROM is preventing itself from becoming an EU and NATO member.

“I hope that there exists a clear picture of things in FYROM, because the lack of stability and long term conflicts will make it harder for this country to move forward in the EU and NATO integration path”, said Steinmeier.

This situation was also commented by the former European negotiator, the Belgian diplomat, Peter Vanhoutte, who has commented the latest protests in Skopje.

“The Color Revolution has been triggered by the will of the citizens for freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and EU and NATO integration”, Vanhoutte said.

But according to him, nationalists are the ones who are defending the party in power.

“In essence, what we’re seeing in Macedonia is the same thing that was seen in the Weimar  Republic in the 30’s in Germany, when the Nazi Party came in power. This party removed democracy, although it was elected in a democratic way. The same thing was also done by VMRO-DPMNE in 2006, when it removed democracy”, said the Belgian diplomat, who was announced a non grata person in the process of the negotiation of the political crisis between the four main parties. Vanhoutte was delegated by the European Commission. /
