Incidents between Macedonian and Albanian youngsters continue in FYR Macedonia’s capital. Several violent incidents were recorded to have happened during this week between groups of young Albanians and Macedonians.
Victims of the majority of these incidents were Albanian youth, who were attacked by Macedonian hooligans in some purely Macedonian ethnicity neighborhoods.
The most violent event culminated on Thursday when a group of Macedonian hooligans attacked some young Albanians near the bus station in Skopje and had a fight with them. Two urban buses were broken into during the incident and some young people seeked medical care due to the serious physical injuries.
Police detained 11 young people yesterday, eight of which minors, who are believed to have been involved in he violent incident that happened on Thursday evening. Immediately after the incident, during the night and in the early hours of the morning, four other incidents and fights were recorded. Two young people, suspected to be Macedonian were beaten by a group of Albanian in Bit Pazar in Skopje.
An Albanian 23-year-old from Batinca, Skopje was beaten from Macedonian hooligans near the Shopping Center. An attack with stones against an urban bus was recorded in neighborhood Hasanbeg, Skopje, during which a 23-year-old was injured from broken glass.
Police has recorded another incident, which happened in a bus station close to Skopje University. Police pointed that two young people attacked a 21-year-old Macedonian youngster, while he was waiting for the bus.
Ministry of Internal Affairs said that they are alarmed from the increase of inter-ethnic incidents in the last days and that they have re-activated preventive measures by intensifying police presence in some areas of Skopje. /ibna/
