Macedonian Foreign Minister, Nikola Poposki has demanded more commitment and energy in the path of the integration of the country in the European Union.
Poposki declared this today when asked by journalists as to how will the latest political tensions between majority and opposition reflect in the European integration aspect.
“EU integration is our objective and we must be united around it. For us, it would be better if we spent our energies on the process of integration and the launch of accession talks. We must be serious and act in order to overcome daily barriers”, declared Foreign Minister Poposki, before the meeting of political directors of Central European Initiative, being hosted in Skopje.
General Secretary of CEI, Giovanni Caracciolo, who chairs this meeting, said that he cannot comment on particular events, but he called on the sides to respect democratic values and principles, in order to make cooperation and dialogue a priority.
“CEI’s scope is to help those countries which aspire to become EU members to continue in their path. This is the message that we bring here in Skopje”, said Caraciolo. According to him, this meeting is discussing the improvement of cooperation between Southeast European countries, especially in infrastructure.
FYR Macedonia, which will now chair CEI, declared through its Foreign Minister that its priorities consist on boosting the dynamics of EU agenda for the region, the development of infrastructure through the aid of EBRD and other financial institutions, especially for Corridor 8 and to focus on economic and commercial integration. /ibna/
