At the end of 2016, Albania counted 160.679 active companies, marking a growth of 5.5% compared to the previous year, 2015.
This is confirmed by the register of companies, the Institute of Statistics reports. According to INSTAT, the new registered companies make up for 21.6% of the total number of companies for 2016.
“Big companies with more than 50 employees occupy only 1.1% of the total of active companies and their contribution in employment was estimated to be 48.3% in 2016 as opposed to 46.2% in 2015”, INSTAT states.
The institute also adds that foreign companies and jointly owned companies occupy 3.5% of active companies, from which 47.2% of them are Italian and 9.2% are Greek companies.
