Informal economy continues to be present in FYROM. According to a report published today by the Center for Studies and Creation of Policies, informal economy dominates the sectors of construction, hospitality and household services.
The study shows that through these activities, the state loses from tax evasion and dishonest competition in many domains.
“Based on our analyses, we have information on particular segments. For example, one third of businesses that we have interviewed, say that they have manipulated with VAT. Meanwhile, citizens say that they take the VAT receipt in only 46% of cases”, said Emil Surkov from the Skopje Based Center for Studies and Creation of Policies.
According to him, one third of workers in different sectors are paid in cash or in an informal way. The majority of people say that they’re in favor of the legalization of the economy and businesses, but they demand concessions and lower tax by the state. /ibna/
