During its stay in Washington for the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the Albanian delegation comprised of the Minister of Economic Development, Commerce and Enterprise, Arben Ahmetaj, Minister of Finance, Shkelqim Cani and governor of the Bank of Albania, Ardian Fullani, have had a meeting with the vice General Directress of the International Monetary Fund, Dr. Nemat Shafik.
During the meeting, Shafik has expressed the interest of IMF to respond as soon as possible to every request of the Albanian government in addressing the problems of the crisis.
On his part, the Minister for Economic Development, Commerce and Enterprise and the Minister of Finance have talked about the package of measures that Rama’s government is aiming to take straight away.
According to Ahmetaj, in spite of all the steps that will be taken with next year’s budget, the government aims to reduce public debt from 72% to 60% in 2018.
Minister Ahmetaj also stressed that the government is ready to resolve some of the long term problems of the Albanian economy, by changing the essence of the economic model of the country, from a model based on debt, to a model based on local production and investments from the private sector.
IMF has stressed its support for the incentives of the government and the readiness to collaborate in order to take Albania out of this situation. /ibna/
