An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission visited Tirana during the period 7-20 March 2018 to discuss the first period of monitoring after the program.
At the end of the visit, the mission declared that “Albania is experiencing one of the fastest economic growths in the region. The macro-economic and political environment is stable, but policy makers must make better use of this period to advance with the reforms in order to reduce risks that stem from the high public debt”.
According to IMF, authorities should aim for fiscal consolidation, increase efficiency of expenses in public investments, they should strengthen institutional framework in monitoring the banking system and remove barriers in the business environment.
“These efforts will open up economy to new opportunities and they will help Albania to come closer to the European Union”, IMF says. /balkaneu.com/
