Parliament elected today the leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta as the new speaker of parliament. Ilir Meta was elected with 91 votes in favor, 45 against and 1 abstain. Two MPs didn’t participate in the voting.

The proposal to elect Meta as the head of parliament had the signatures of the most known names of the new majority. The request was signed by Edi Rama, Ben Blushi, Gramoz Ruci, Sadri Abazi, Saimir Tahir and most of the MPs of the SMI.

The request for Meta’s election was signed by 43 MPs.

In his first speech as speaker of parliament, Meta said that the political class should leave conflicts behind and think of the citizens. “Unemployment and poverty are our true challenges. The best measurement of our policies is: how many Albanians were employed today and how much better off do the citizens live?”, said Meta.

Meta demanded political cooperation for the reforms, saying that the country needs reforms. /ibna/
