There are no hopes for a solution to the name dispute, says Kacin MEP

Skopje, October 30, 2013

Member of European Parliament, Jelko Kaci has declared that there are no hopes for a solution to the name dispute between FYR Macedonia and Greece.

He has underlined that one of his colleagues, Greek MEP Marija Eleni Kopa has been shocked by the news that the Greek side has proposed during the negotiations for the name dispute the name “Slavo-Albanian Macedonia”. “The situation has not matured for a solution. Marija Eleni Kopa was terrified today when I told her as to what their official proposal was. She didn’t believe such proposal”, declared the Slovenian MEP Kaci, who is staying on a visit to Washington in the framework of a group of MEPs.

In the meeting of the North Atlantic Council in the USA which discussed the perspectives for Eastern Europe, Kacin demanded from the USA to engage for the enlargement of the Alliance even in the 2014 Summit, but by mentioning Montenegro’s accession only.

Asked by journalists as to why he doesn’t mention FYROM when it comes to enlargement, Kaci said that this country has not shown that it wants to come to a solution for the name dispute and as a result of this, its accession is not expected. /ibna/
