In Albania, the Constitutional Court has suspended the application of the bill “On tax procedures”, which penalized businesses with hefty fines.
The decision was taken following the request of the Association for the Protection of Merchants and the Market sent to this court, after considering it as anti-constitutional.
The bill “On tax procedures”, which came into effect on 12 November of this year, was strongly contested since it was drafted by the business sector backed by the opposition, but Prime Minister’s Edi Rama government didn’t withdraw.
Under this bill, fines vary from 500 thousand ALL (3500 euros) to 10 million ALL (70 thousand euros).
The government says that this bill didn’t aim at conducting reprisals against businesses, but enforcing legitimacy in the country and reduce tax evasion. /ibna/
