Heads of religious communities in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia issued today (01.04) a joint declaration where they have called for free and democratic elections.
This declaration has been signed by the head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, archbishop Stefan, Islamic Religious Community led by Sulejman Rexhepi, Catholic Church, with its archbishop, Kiro Stojanov, Evangelist-Methodist Church and Hebrew Religious community in FYR Macedonia.
“The freedom of choice is a basic human right, which does not only benefit a democratic modern society, but it’s also part of the religious teaching. But, this freedom of choice, which is in the core of our faith and conviction, must be reasonable, but above all, in compliance with legal provisions of the society and the state where we live and of course, with the basic moral-natural code”, said religious leaders in their message.
They underlined that in the presidential and early parliamentary elections, citizens must use their right of vote based on their own conviction and with a democratic responsibility.
“We’re all responsible for the future and prosperity of our country. Every damage made to the elections is a damage made to ourself and the image of our country. Therefore, let us confirm that we are people with a state formation capacity, with international principles, and above all, people who bear true religious and spiritual values. /ibna/
