European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policies and Enlargement, Johanes Hahn is visiting Skopje, due to the deep political crisis that has affected the country after the eavesdropping affair.
Today, Hahn has held intensive meetings with state leaders, starting with president George Ivanov, PM Nikola Gruevski, speaker of parliament Trajko Veljanovski, while in the evening, he’s expected to meet with heads of political parties.
In a short press declaration after the meeting with speaker of parliament, Veljanovski, Hahn said that he came to Skopje in order to find a solution for the political crisis.
“The aim of this visit is to express the interest of the European Union in overcoming political disputes”, said Hahn, stressing the need to intensify political dialogue.
Speaker of parliament, Trajko Veljanovski said that European commissioner Hahn has said that the European Parliament is ready to offer its help in order to overcome the current crisis. Veljanovski also said that the meeting stressed the need of holding a parliamentary debate and the return of the opposition in parliament.
Hahn has also met with president George Ivanov and deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Fatmir Besimi. The president’s office issued a press release, where it says that the meeting underlined the need for political parties to behave in a responsible way and in the spirit of understanding, putting the interests of the citizens above everything else. At the end of his visit, Hahn will express his stance on the current developments and political tension in FYR Macedonia. /ibna/
