Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn has declared that if a political agreement is not achieved in FYROM, then the country may lose the recommendation to launch talks with the European Union for accession.
Euro commissioner Hahn has issued this declaration from Washington where he’s participating in the Atlantic Committee.
“I am aware of the crisis in Macedonia and there have been talks between majority and government for the best time to hold the elections. Political parties must be constructive, because if the political agreement is not respected, Macedonia may lost its recommendation for the opening of negotiations granted in 2009”, declared European Commissioner Hahn.
According to him, Europe has a moral responsibility to secure FYROM’s European perspective in the interest of the stability of the region. Commenting on the wiretapping affair, Hahn underlined that this is a big scandal that cannot be ignored. Hahn declared that the first step of finding a solution is for the opposition to return to parliament.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), Ali Ahmeti has sent a letter to the EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn stressing that his party backs the agreement reached three days ago in Skopje between the four main parties.
The next round of talks has been scheduled to take place on June 10 and these talks will define the agenda for the solution of the crisis through the formation of an interim government. /ibna/
