Prime Minister of FYR Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski declares that the Albanian party of the governing coalition, Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) has exaggerated it with the request for a consensual president.
Speaking on a public debate in Skopje, where he talked about the announcement of early parliamentary elections, Gruevski admitted the failure for a consensual president, which was an idea launched by BDI.
“BDI exaggerated with its request for a consensual president. In a democracy, it’s impossible to elect the president in a consensual way, because it’s the people that elect the president and the Constitution regulates this”, declared prime minister Gruevski.
According to him, the final objective of BDI is for presidential elections to fail and for this failure to then trigger constitutional changes and early parliamentary elections. This was the case.
Gruevski has also praised the offers made by Albanian parties, stressing that they are more focused on the ethnic aspect.
“I’m worried about the fact that Albanian parties only focused on ethnic issues”, said the prime minister and leader of the biggest Macedonian party VMRO-DPMNE. /ibna/
