The Greek universities occupy 41 positions in international QS table

London, March 22, 2016: The sixth edition of the International Table Universities Ranking by Academic Subject of QS, which was published today in TopUniversities.com, includes a record number 42 industries, making it the biggest international ranking table, by teaching subject, ever written. The Greek universities appear 41 times in this table, with three teaching subjects ranking in the top 100 for the teaching object.

The opinion 76 798 academics and 44 426 employers was used to reach these results, along with the analysis of 28.5 million research projects and 113 million references, using as source the bibliometric Scopus/Elsevier database.

Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continue to dominate in first place, with 24 subjects both. Each occupies the first 12 positions. The highest position of Greece and the only place in the top 50 is obtained from the National Technical University that ranked in 33rd position for Civil and Structural Engineers. The other two positions of Greece in the top 100 are attributed to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which ranks 51-100 for Civil and Structural Engeneers, as well as on the new ranking list of QS for Archaeology.

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the most successful Greek university in teaching subjects, appearing in 14 different tables of teaching subject this year. Below is the National Technical University that appears in 8 different tables of teaching subjects and the University of Patras that appears to 7. In total, six different greek universities appear in 41 positions of this year’s ranking list.

The country’s universities have experienced a decrease in three of the four metric factors used by QS to calculate the rankings. The only area where there is an increase the reputation of employers, which has increased from 59.16 to 61.07, indicating that it the awareness of Greek university graduates by employers this year has increased. However, the academic reputation of Greek universities has decreased this year, as well as the research impact, as measured according to the list of references per university and the h-index.
