The strong bilateral relations, the situation in Eastern Ukraine and Cyprus were the focus of yesterday’s conversation between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, according to a statement from the White House.
Regarding the telephone conversation of the American vice-President and the Greek Prime Minister, the White House announcement specifically mentions that “Vice President Joe Biden spoke yesterday with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on bilateral relations, the situation in eastern Ukraine and Cyprus”.
They also expressed their appreciation for the strong bilateral ties and alliance between Greece and the United States.
The statement goes on underlining that “in regard to Ukraine, the leaders agreed that the continuation of the Russian supply of heavy weapons and equipment to separatists in eastern Ukraine, requires a stable and unified response from the European Union and the United States”.
Finally, “regarding Cyprus, Biden informed Samaras on his recent trip to the island in May and the leaders discussed their strong support for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict that will reunite Cyprus into a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality”.
