On top of the shipping inductry continues to be by far the Greek-owned shipping, while 13 Greek shipowners are among the 100 most important of the industry.
According to the annual yearbook «Lloyd’s List Top 100 2015», the Greek shipping controls 334.649 million tons, with a dwt capacity of 60 million. Second comes Japan, followed by China.
From the Greek shipowners Yannis Angelikousis stands out, being fifth in the list of 100, not only for his fleet capacity of 26.8 million tons, but also his influence.
Angelikousis follows a family tradition of many years, which continues with many awards.
“My current business creation is not just mine. It is the result of dedicated staff and the sailors who traveling with our company’s ships”, he said.
The Greeks who stand out in the list are: Angeliki Frangos of Navios in 16th place, Giorgos Economou in 17th place, Giorgos Prokopios in 18th place, Panayotis (Peter) G. Livanos in 21st place, Petros Pappas in 31st place, Nikolas Tsakos in 45th place, Petros Georgiopoulos in 47th place, Theodore Veniamis, president of the Union of Greek Shipowners 48th, Kostis Konstantakopoulos in 52nd place, Evangelos Marinakis in 65th place, Simos Palios in 88th place and Dimitris Melissanidis in 98th place.
