The Greek men’s national basketball team was drawn in the 3rd group of the Eurobasket 2015 in Zagreb, with opponents Croatia, Slovenia, RYR Macedonia, Georgia and the Netherlands.
The draw for the 24 teams took place yesterday, in «Disneyland» Paris, and resulted in the formation of four groups of six.
The process of the draw watched live on «Disneyland» the coach of the Greek team, Fotis Katsikaris, the caretaker of the national teams Kostas Missas, the general secretary of the Greek Federation (EEC) Panagiotis Tsagkronis and member of the EEC, Aris Zois.
EuroBasket 2015 will take place in the period September 5-20 and will go down in history as the first in 80 years of the institution to be co-organized by four countries (Germany, France, Latvia and Croatia).
The matches of the group stage will be held in Berlin, Montpellier, Riga and Zagreb (September 5-11), while the knockout games of the final phase (September 12-20) will take place in Lille.
Motivation is high for the participating teams, since the European Championship is a qualifying criterion for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016).
Specifically, the two finalists will ensure their direct qualification to the Olympic men’s basketball tournament, while the four teams that will follow in the score (3-6) will get a second chance, with their participation in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
