The Greek Police (ELAS) plans to activate a “network” with Israeli drones in the borders and inland, an issue that will be put on the table in the upcoming trip of the Minister of Public Order Vasilis Kikilias to Israel.

According to Sunday’s edition of the newspaper “To Vima”, the acquisition of the small unmanned aircrafts with thermal cameras was launched by the Minister, after having utilized such instruments in recent major cases that had involved police investigations.

The aircraft will have a length of between one and four meters, their flight radius reaches 300 km and at least one kilometer of spying radius. In their equipment will be included thermal cameras.

The drone, the newspaper writes, will be scattered across the country, and will be propelled using jet mechanisms to the locations of interest.

Attempts had been made on least two occasions in the past to use such means -in the kidnapping of a businessman in 2009 and in pursuit of the escapees from Trikala prison last year- but ultimately without success.
