Greek Ionian island of Zakynthos shocked by 6.4 quake 

The Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens registered a powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake, at 01:54 local on Friday morning in the sea area off the island of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Sea.

According to reports, the strong tremor that occurred was felt not only in Greece but in Italy, Malta, southern France, the Balkans and also Libya. The earthquake caused only material damages on the island and no injuries were reported. However, state authorities announced that schools and public businesses will remain shut on Friday so that buildings are properly checked by the inspectors in charge.
