Greek Coastal Guard seizes ship with weapons off the coast of Crete

A cargo ship, flying under the flag of Bolivia,  was seized in the sea area of ​​Crete, after a search by Greek authorities found a cargo of significant amount of weapons. The ship was seized after the coordinated operation of a Coast Guard vessel, boarded with men of the Greek special forces.

The “Haddad 1” was spotted off the coast of Ierapetra and was expected to dock at dawn Wednesday in the port of Heraklion.

The ship came from the Turkish port of Alexandretta with destination a port in Libya.

The 60-meter long ship had departed from the port of Turkey bound for Libya and its papers, according to information, were saying it was carrying plastics. However, after a thorough search, it was discovered that a substantial number of weapons were hidden in the hold.

The seven-member crew of the ship consists of Syrian, Egyptian and Indian nationals.
