Greece: Tsipras sent letters of condolences to Vucic and Holy Synod of SOC for the repose of Patriarch Irinej

The President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance Alexis Tsipras sent letters of condolences to the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and to the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the occasion of the repose of Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

Alexis Tsipras mentions in his letter to the Serbian President:

“Mr. President,

I was informed, with sorrow, about the passing of His Holiness the Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci and Serbian Patriarch, Irinej, an important figure for the Serbian people and Orthodoxy.

The late Patriarch, who I had the opportunity to meet during my visits to Serbia, contributed significantly to the strengthening of the historic GreekSerbian relations of friendship and cooperation and of the strong spiritual bonds between our peoples.

I express my sincere condolences.”

In his letter to the Serbian Patriarchate and the vicar of the Serbian Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan, Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia, the letter states:

“Your Eminence,

I express my sincere condolences on the passing of His Holiness the Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci and Serbian Patriarch, Irinej, an important figure for the Serbian people and Orthodoxy.

The Late Patriarch, who always spoke warmly about his studies in Greece and his relations with the Greek people, contributed significantly to the strengthening of the historically strong, spiritual and religious bonds between our peoples.”/ibna
