Greek Deputy FM Sia Anagnostopoulou and North Macedonia’s FM Nikola Dimitrov signed an agreement today in Skopje on the opening of the border-crossing Lemos-Markova Noga in the Prespes region.
“I want to thank the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Dimitrov, for the cooperation and discussion we have had, to welcome the signing of the first agreement on the opening of a new passage in the Prespes region, in the Lemos area. It is an important agreement based on the provisions of the historic agreement we have signed, the great, the Prespes Agreement. Our cooperation will be to the benefit of both sides and the Balkan peninsula”, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece.
The signing of the agreement was also welcomed by the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia.
The agreement was signed in three languages.
Nikola Dimitrov clarified that the language of his country, spoken by the citizens of North Macedonia and the Diaspora of the country, has nothing to do with the Greek Macedonians.
The agreement on the new border crossing is historic because the name and terminology agreed in Article 1 of the Prespes Agreement are being implemented for the first time. I am really happy to have signed it in three languages, in Greek, Macedonian and English. The Macedonian language, and this is important to us, which is spoken by the citizens of North Macedonia and our diaspora and, as agreed in Article 7 of the Prespes Agreement, has nothing to do with the Greek Macedonians”, Nikola Dimitrov said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece also met in Skopje with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev./ibna
